January – The Fool + 3 of Rods

The theme for January is new beginnings, faith, taking chances, living in the moment, embracing risk. it’s a fresh new start to do all the things you have been dreaming of. You’re ready to get out there and have an adventure, and have faith that it will be fantastic!

The three of rods is about exploration, leadership, foresight, creative visualization and collaboration, and waiting for the results of your actions. You are launching the seeds of your future – have patience, you will see results in time. Keep an eye on your goals for the future, but be in the present moment when you are creating it. Know what is yours and what is not yours to do.

Example Reading: End Of Year Reading For 2015

Example Tarot Reading: End Of Year Reading For 2015

Cards from Hanson-Roberts Tarot © U.S. Games Systems, Inc.

First row: Main lessons from 2015 in the areas of health/self care, career/business, relationships, and spiritual/personal growth

Second row: Main things to know or do to make 2016 a great year in the areas of health/self care, career/business, relationships, and spiritual/personal growth

Main Health/Self Care Lesson From 2015 – Page of Swords

The first thing that comes to mind for this is standing up for yourself, being “on guard” (alert) and protecting yourself. She’s suspiciously watching something in the distance and it looks like she doesn’t intend to actually swing that sword unless she has to, so you’ve probably been avoiding conflict this year. I’m drawn to her big fuzzy hat and the dark clouds in the sky – I feel like this symbolizes protecting your mind in the midst of stormy “weather” (conflict, trouble, difficult times, etc.).

What Is Wrong With You?

Therese Skelly (one of my favorite teachers for learning about inner work) asked this question in an article she wrote about visibility.

What Is WRONG With You?

The idea behind the question is that we hold ourselves back from being more visible because there are parts of ourselves that we are ashamed of or are afraid will be judged or made fun of.

And when we hide these parts of ourselves, we tend to feel like we need to hide PERIOD. Which holds us back from stepping into more visibility. So Therese suggests identifying the parts of ourselves that we consider to be “bad” or “wrong” so that we can heal them.

As I thought about my answers to “What is WRONG with you?”, I realized that none of them are unique! There is nothing “wrong” with me, that isn’t also “wrong” with other people too.

And every answer basically boils down to Read more ›

What Is Tarot And How Does It Work?

What Is Tarot & How Does It Work?

Cards from Hanson-Roberts Tarot © U.S. Games Systems, Inc.

The origin and original meaning of the word “tarot” is uncertain, but in today’s world it refers to a certain type of cards that are used for receiving spiritual guidance.

What Makes A Tarot Deck Different From Other Types Of Cards?

Each tarot deck contains 78 cards total. There are 22 major arcana cards which represent major life themes such as beginnings, endings, love, hope, fear, learning, etc., and 56 minor arcana cards which are divided into four different suits. The minor cards represent life themes too, but usually in a more specific way that is related to their suit. Each suit contains the numbered cards ace through 10 and four court cards.

The names of the suits vary from deck to deck, but in general the suits are:

Swords or Scrolls – representing the element of air, thinking, and communication.

Wands, Staffs, or Rods – representing the element of fire, passion, creativity and action.

Cups or Chalices – representing the element of water, emotions, and intuition.

Pentacles, Coins, or Disks – representing the element of earth, material things such as money and possessions, work, and prosperity.

Any deck that does not follow this format is not a tarot deck.

Where Did Tarot Cards Come From?

Tarot decks started out being commissioned by European nobility to be used for

My Favorite Teachers For Learning About Inner Work (+ a free ebook)

Inner work is a type of personal development that involves recognizing when fear, limiting beliefs, or other internal mental/emotional things are holding you back, and then doing things to work through them or change them so that you can more easily move forward with the outer work.

Technically it’s probably considered emotional processing, but I’d say doing this type of work regularly also counts as brain development because you’re slowly shifting your mental patterns in a more positive direction each time.

Many people consider inner work to be a spiritual practice as well.

There are many different ways to do this type of work.

Today I’m going to share with you three of my favorite teachers and a free e-book (written by someone else) that references the work of several other teachers. If you’re new to this kind of personal development, exploring the work of these different teachers will give you plenty to start with.

My Favorite Teachers For Learning About Inner Work

In chronological order of discovery, here are my top three favorite teachers for learning how to do inner work:

How To Start Tuning In To Your Intuition And Receiving Spiritual Guidance

I believe that there are two main kinds of intuition – the scientifically accepted unconscious physical/mental processing kind, and the “psychic” life/spiritual guidance kind.

This article, as you can probably guess from the title, is about the life/spiritual guidance kind.

There are many different theories about where our intuitive guidance comes from. God, Angels, Spirit Guides, our souls, our own unconscious…

Personally, I think it doesn’t really matter which of those sources we think it comes from.

What matters is that the guidance is helpful to us, and we know how to access it.

Here are some things that will get you started and help you figure out how you best tune in to your guidance.

YOUR Business, YOUR Way

The idea of having an online business is attractive to many people. The freedom! The flexibility! The ability to make money doing what you love! Who wouldn’t want that? But building a successful business requires a lot of knowledge, skills, and work. And when we first start out, most of us have no idea what we’re doing. So we start leaning. We read blogs and books, watch videos, take classes, and look to more experienced business owners for advice.

These are all really good things to do – until we start thinking we have to do things a certain way.

I’ve had more than a few people come to me who were totally stuck because they didn’t know how to or didn’t want to do the things they thought they “had to” do. And they were all pretty shocked when I told them they actually didn’t have to do those things if they didn’t want to.

But won’t it kill my business if I don’t…

What Is Coaching?

Are you wondering what exactly coaching is? Do you think it’s just another name for consulting or therapy? Or that all coaches are either too pushy or too gentle and feelings focused?

Well coaching is not the same as consulting or therapy. And there are many types of coaches. (Though a coach should only push you to achieve what you want or do better in different areas of your life/business/etc. or if you’ve asked them to push you.)

The purpose of coaching is to help you make positive progress. This can mean supporting you in achieving your goals, helping you get un-stuck, improving something (or many things) over time, or many other things.

A coach can…

  • help you sort through your overwhelming mess of jumbled thoughts and turn them into a clear action plan.
  • help you get unstuck, and keep you on track, steadily making progress on your goals.
  • boost your confidence and encourage you to go after big goals.
  • be a sounding board for you, and help you figure out what you want.
  • suggest things you might not have thought of.
  • help you figure out what you need to do to go from idea to reality.
  • help you prioritize, simplify, and create a reasonable plan so you aren’t overwhelmed and struggling to balance all the things you need and want to do.
  • help you work through your fears and deal with obstacles.
  • help you look at the big picture and/or see things from a different perspective.
  • help you stay focused on what’s important to you.
  • help you (and your business) to grow.

And so much more. A coach can help you improve your business and/or life in so many ways.

This Is Who Your Ideal Clients Are

Pretty much every business blog or website has at least one post or article about defining your “ideal client” or “target market”, if not many. Maybe they talk about creating a “customer profile” or “perfect client avatar” instead, or finding your “best customers” or “right people”. There are many ways to talk about it, but the basic idea is the same. You need to know who your potential clients and/or customers are before you will be able to attract them.

This is true, but a lot of people have trouble with it.

When you’re just starting out it can be hard to define who you work with best or who is likely to buy your stuff because you haven’t worked with or attracted very many people yet. If you try to define your ideal client when you honestly have no idea who they might be, you’re just guessing. That’s not necessarily bad, and who knows, maybe you’ll turn out to be right, but that doesn’t help with the fact that you know you’re just guessing and you don’t really have much confidence in your description.

And lack of confidence can hold you back.

Who Is Your Ideal Client?

Going Against Conventional Advice

Here’s the deal. Everyone tells you that you need to create an extremely specific and detailed profile of your target clients or customers.

For a first time solo-preneur this can often range from fun (but ultimately useless because you’re getting specific about the wrong things) to “impossible” (because you know you don’t know who they are yet).

So why waste your time on it?

What’s Your Emergency Plan For Your Business?

There was a pretty scary storm a few days ago, and it got me thinking. If something had happened to me, how would that affect my clients?

It would seem like I’d just disappeared. And, oh no! Would my clients who have automatic payments set up have to keep paying? (Turns out no, they don’t.)

I hope nothing bad will ever happen to you, me, or anyone we know, and to be honest, I hate talking about the possibility of something happening. But the entire purpose of my business is to help you by sharing my knowledge and experience. So even though this is an uncomfortable topic, I’ve got to bring it up.
